This was passed along to me via email this week from Parkway Heights in Hattiesburg as part of their Branching Out series. Had to share. (3rd post in one day)
Pruning is hard work in gardening and in life because we don't want to let things go. Our tendency is to add more work, more responsibilities, more worries, more items on the "to do" list. When we fail to prune, life becomes unmanageable, and we lose our energy for the things that matter.
One of the first things we tend to lose when we refuse to prune is our relationships.
We find less and less time for friendships, our marriages, and our children. It's not that our relationships don't matter; they just get squeezed out. We need those relationships though. The book of Hebrews encourages us: "And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another-and all the more as you see the Day approaching."
"All the more." We shouldn't be lessening our time and commitment to our relationships.
We should be increasing it! It's in those relationships that we encounter grace and love. In our relationships we are encouraged in the faith and given the encouragement we need to continue to grow.
